Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What are the requirements to fullfill?
A: The requirements are attendance of the classes, 80 hours of clinical work monthly and specific projects to ensure you are learning how to apply the knowledge.
-
Q: What certificate do you obtain?
A: Certification of this program is in the works. We do not anticipate having that ironed out this first year. No official certificate is available at this point, being the first year of the program. However, in the future a potential partnership with a local university may provide a certificate for the physicians who complete the program.
-
Q: Why was the program established?
A: The program was established based on a lack of leadership training for emergency physicians in the country. Residency training does an excellent job in training us for clinical medicine, however, the administrative side and the ability to lead other physicians is something that is lacking in the current residency training. We believe that bringing together ten to twelve motivated individuals, connecting them with administrative mentors in a clinical setting and complementing those experiences with a panel of expert physician leaders will allow us to develop superior leaders for our specialty.
-
Q: Where do you work clinically?
A: Clinical rotations will be set up at sites that have experienced directors who can serve as administrative on-line mentors. There are several options and you will have a say in your clinical location. You are not a staffing solution. The hand-picked locations are based on the learning environment they present.
-
Q: How is it that one doesn’t have to relocate to be part of the institute?
A: The organization has discovered that many physician leaders don’t want to be relocated until they know they are going to find a good fit for themselves and their family. Our leadership training program does not introduce the upheaval of personal relocation as a requirement to participate beyond the travel requirements listed below. Travel expenses will be paid by the organization. You will be responsible for being at a headquarters for education 3 consecutive days each month. You will work clinically 80 hours monthly. These clinical hours will be in two 40 hour blocks, one during the week and one over a weekend. Doing the math you will be on the road for 15 days and home for 15 days each month. We will also guarantee one complete 7-day block off per month to ensure that you have plenty of time to be with your family during this training program.
-
Q: Does this require a new position with your company for the year?
A: You will be an employee of EMP Holdings for the year of training. As such you will be paid for administrative/classroom time and for clinical hours worked thru our company. Full benefits and a cash compensation of $250,000.
-
Q: Who runs the program?
A: The program is run by the Emergency Medicine Leadership Institute. The Institute is funded by EMP Holdings, a management organization which supports two emergency medical groups seeing over 2 million patients per year.
